After graduating from a Fine Art MA, I qualified as a teacher. I taught in secondary, college and adult education in London and Essex for 18 years, including in alternative education for excluded students with a trauma informed approach. I am also experienced in delivering community arts workshops and events in non-school settings and working with younger children at kids clubs and artist in residencies.
Photography
Since university I have undertaken commercial digital photography work and specialise in portraits for people who don't enjoy having their photograph taken, and in still life images. I was shortlisted for the international photography prize "What public health looks like" in 2018.
Art Practice
I have continued my practice as an artist, exhibiting regularly in London and reaching the semi-final of The Big Art Challenge. I work with analogue photography techniques — including darkroom, alternative chemistry and anthotype — and non-traditional drawing to create unusual landscape works rooted in specific, observed detail.
Current Project
Since 2017 I have been working around E17, E11 and E18, en plein aire, observing the quiet charms of urban nature — starting in the Walthamstow Wetlands, moving onto houseplants during COVID-19 and Epping Forest after. My latest project aims to create an overview of local nature spots across the four seasons, documenting the changing flora; their shapes and colours.
